Across rural India, women are leading a quiet revolution. Through PASALA Foundation's Women Empowerment Program, over 8,500 women have gained economic independence, leadership skills, and a voice in their communities.
Our approach centers on self-help groups (SHGs) — small collectives of 10-20 women who save together, access microfinance, and launch small businesses. What started with 12 groups in 2012 has grown to over 350 active SHGs today.
Lakshmi's Story
Lakshmi Devi joined an SHG in 2018 with nothing but determination. Today, she leads a cooperative of 30 women producing handicrafts sold across three states. "We don't wait for help anymore," she says. "We create our own opportunities."
Program Components
Our women empowerment work includes vocational training, legal awareness workshops, leadership development, and childcare support — removing barriers that have historically kept women from participating in the economy.
